Maria’s berättelse
En av mina bästa vänner Sara förlorade sin dotter i magen i vecka 37 i december 2017. Jag minns när jag fick hennes meddelande efter förlossningen och hon fortfarande var på sjukhuset. Det var så fruktansvärt hjärtskärande och ofattbart, och jag var så ledsen för hennes skull. Jag har sedan fått följa Saras och hennes mans långa resa genom sorgen.
I april 2020 hände det ofattbara igen när min bror Johan och hans sambo Madeleine förlorade sin son Leo i vecka 39. Jag tog verkligen till mig deras sorg och jag tänker på min lilla brorson varje dag. Dom skickade bilder av Leo till mig från sjukhuset, han var så himla fin. Jag ville göra något fint för dom, ett minne av Leo, och bestämde mig därför att måla ett porträtt av honom. Efter att jag läst Ett litet barn dör tänkte jag att det måste finnas fler föräldrar som skulle vilja ha ett porträtt av sina förlorade barn, precis som att många föräldrar vill ha porträtt av sina levande barn. Jag målade ett porträtt till Sara också och kontaktade sedan Spädbarnsfonden om ett samarbete.
Idag målar jag porträtt av förlorade barn och donerar 350 kr av varje målning till Spädbarnsfondens forskningsfond.
Jag hoppas med detta att jag kan skapa ett vackert minne till föräldrarna och att med Spädbarnsfondens hjälp bidra till att minska antalet barn som dör varje år i Sverige.

A collaboration with the Swedish Infant Death Foundation
Here you can order watercolor portraits of your lost child. For each portrait, the artist donates SEK 350 to the Infant Death Foundation in Sweden.

Maria's story
One of my best friends Sara lost her daughter in the womb in week 37 of pregnancy in December 2017. I remember when I got her message after the birth and she was still in the hospital. It was so terribly heartbreaking and unimaginable, and I was so sorry for her. I have since followed Sara and her husband's long journey through their grief.
In April 2020, the unimaginable happened again when my brother Johan and his partner Madeleine lost their son Leo in week 39 of pregnancy. I really felt their grief and I think of my little nephew every day. They sent pictures of Leo to me from the hospital, he was so beautiful. I wanted to do something nice for them, a memory of Leo, so I decided to paint a portrait of him. After reading A Little Child Dies (a book available from The Infant Death Fundation), I thought; there must be more parents who would like a portrait of their lost children, just as many parents want a portrait of their living children. I also painted a portrait for Sara and then contacted the Infant Death Foundation about a collaboration.
Today I paint portraits of lost children and donate SEK 350 of each painting to the foundation and their research found.
I hope with my work I can create a beautiful memory for the parents and that with the help of the Infant Death Foundation, contribute to reducing the number of children who die every year in around the world.
About the Infant Death Foundation
The smallest coffins are the heaviest to carry
Spädbarnsfonden (Swedish Infant Death Foundation) is an independent charity organisation with no ties, neither political nor religious. The pillars of the association are parents who have lost children themselves.
Their principal purpose is to support parents, and families, who have experienced the heavy loss of a child before its birth, or during its first year.
They also spread information about infant death, and offer different types of education.
In addition, they award research grants to promising studies aiming to reduce the infant death toll, or to develop improved methods for treating those afflicted.
